SPARTANBURG, SC-- Conley Duaine Cook, 54, of Spartanburg, SC, passed on Monday, February 1, 2010, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an illness of several months. He graduated from Permian High School in 1974 and received three degrees from Texas Tech University-Bachelor of Music (1987), Master of Fine Arts (1992), and Master of Arts (1993). A talented lyric baritone, he also studied at the Hartt School of Music, Hartford, CT and served as a church musician and choral soloist. He served as Executive Director, San Angelo Symphony Orchestra; General Manager, North Arkansas Symphony Society, Fayetteville, AR; Program Director, Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, and Music Director, Congregation Shaareth, Lubbock, TX. In 1998 he moved to Spartanburg, SC where he held a sales position for Jos. A. Bank Men's Clothier, taught at the University School of Spartanburg County, and served as Music Director for Congregation B'nai Israel. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Donna Kaye Brand; parents, Rev. Bill and Dorothy Cook (Odessa, TX); sister, Dr. Karon Cook; and niece, Emily Austin (Houston, TX); aunts, Nita Hardin (Lubbock, TX), Peggy Cain (Midland, TX), and Merlene Slaughter (Corpus Christi, TX); and uncles, Jim Barnes (Odessa, TX) and Dan Cook (Kentucky). Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the First Baptist Church, 709 N. Lee, Odessa, Texas. Family visitation will follow the service. A date is yet to be determined for a memorial service to be held in Spartanburg, SC.
