Sam Oates
ODESSA Sam Oates, 44 passed away Friday Jan. 19 in his home. He was born July 30, 1956
in Odessa and was a 1974 graduate of Permian High School. He attended Texas Tech and
graduated from the Ron Bailey School of Broadcasting in Denver, Colo.
Sam was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton
Catholic Church.
Above and beyond all, Sam loved his family. He was a devoted father and husband. He loved
traveling, work and cared for his friends, co-workers and never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Oates; sons, Nikolaus and Kristopher Oates; daughter,
Samantha Oates; sister, Susie Wheaton and her husband, Don, of Arlington; parents, C.W.
and Guy Oates of Odessa; nephews, Ben and Ross Wheaton, Joshua and Marcus Compis;
and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Chuck
Oates.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday Jan. 22 at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev.
Bill Cook officiating. Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
